If your pond doesn't require a bunch of diffusers due to an irregular shape, you can aerate a half acre pond with a 1/3 hp compressor.
It needs to be sized so the amount of bubbles bring at least 120% of the pond water to the surface of the pond every 24 hours. That's with it running 24/7 or only running for a few hours a day. In this instance, size does matter.
and no, I have never used that setup before.
