Splitting the airline under water will result in most or all the air going to the shallowest diffuser due to air following the path of least resistance or to the one with least head pressure. The more the diffusers are at a different depths the more the air will flow toward the shallowest diffuser. See snrub's good advice next post.

What is the valve box that I would need to get? My hose is 1/2" and I have a 3/4" outlet from the pump and a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter to connect that to my hose?
