Update: Pond has been dug. The slopes are a bit steeper than I wanted probably 2:1 in most areas with some 3:1. Max depth is around 16ft.

Very interesting soil. Clay near the top but some big sand veins about half way down until the deepest part. Appears there is thick blue clay underneath the pond.

Due to the steepness and sand veins we were unable to compact the pond with a sheepsfoot roller. Contractor thinks the pond will seal over time especially with the clay bottom. We really didn't hit any water until the very bottom. There is a couple inches in the bottom and it's stayed that way for a few days which is good. Supposed to get a bunch of rain over the next few days so will monitor.

Since I have some sand veins on the sides, once the material is saturated with water is it possible the pond will hold water and not leak out the sides? Or should I prep for some clay or bentonite lining down the road?

Thanks
