Where the SMB are from may be important in terms of when they are nesting. Those I am familiar with do not get started until water temperatures get into upper 50's to middle 60's F. In ponds with lots of warm shallows that was already realized two weeks ago, although all nests made at that time in my ponds failed owing to cold snap the following week. Same ponds are going at it again now.

Stream stocks I watch usually are a couple weeks later and can be spawning well into June. Streams I watch are shaded by trees and more often charged with lots of springs along their length.
