With how suspended it is I'm wondering if a sediment trap pond would even be enough. If the surrounding soil is so prone to releasing sediment then would diverting the creek or building on the plateau and relying on rain water runoff evan help? That's why you need a good thick bed of plants growing on the land surrounding the pond.
