Hi! Newbie here! Can I ask a question? I went into a bait store to buy fatheads for a new pond...they laughed at me!!!!! Why does every country man tell me my minnows won't "make it"? I ended up buying ruby reds, because the fatheads I bought through the mail died on my porch...and put them in last week since the water is not hot from summer yet. Is there a secret I do not know? I am just trying to establish a food source for future fish and healthy ecosystem boost. And your ponds are all large and beautiful compared to my pond!
The guy at the bait store was correct, The fatheads probably won't make it past 1 year, maybe 2 if you are lucky. BUT, that is what they are supposed to do - get the pond started on the correct foot. What he neglected to tell you is that the Rosy Reds are Fatheads too, just of a different color.
