Normally they GC are schooly fish so it is likely that you only have 10-12 remaining. Could be the 4 or 5 others may have been deeper. Keep a watch for them from a distance. They often avoid near surface sun bathing when people are close and active. The more still you are the more likely you will see them near the surface. Best time to see them together is in spring when the deeper water is cool and the sun is warming the near surface layers. They strongly prefer the sun warmed surface layer. Clear water also helps!
