I am aerating in the afternoons, unless a norther is blowing in. Expecting I am moderating temperature and providing oxygen, which I believe helps oxidize wastes and leaves, and which is necessary to bacteria consuming waste and organic debris. I also have a heavy fish load in my 1/10 acre pond. For that I apply some supplemental bacteria and enzymes. (not as much as recommended because of cost) At the end of summer I de-mucked the pond and pumped nothing but black mud out of the deepest over about two hours...no debris after 2 1/2 years.
