I have had a couple of clients understock their ponds with the idea that "the fish will reproduce to fill the void".

It's never turned out to happen that way. I would say stock the predators that are appropriate for the surface acreage of your pond time at the time of stocking.

When taking into consideration what fish might eat which fish, remember that all fish have their certain "Niche" habitat in the pond and won't hunt for food out of that niche unless the readily available food is lacking.

i.e. you won't have good success in bullhead control if you stock Musky to control them if there are LMB, YP an BG in the pond.
