As my surface temperatures dropped down to around 60 I changed my aeration to mid-day only for several weeks then shut it off. Once the air temperature got down to around freezing at night I did not want to be additionally cooling the water, so just ran it during the day (after the water got cool enough to not worry about low DO).

I'm not saying that is the right way to do it. Just the way I did it. If we get a real warm spell I may turn it back on for a few hours a day but warmth has seemed to escape us this fall.
