There have been multiple studies done on the effect of barometric pressure on fish. The increase in pressure has a direct effect on the swim bladder and causes fish to become lethargic, and sometimes throwing off their equilibrium to the point where they will literally lie on their sides on the bottom until theyve been able to adjust to the change.

The earliest study I recall was on LMB in FL and performed by Doug Hannon, who was widely known in the tournament community as the "BASS PROFESSOR".
