Dono, the red tide is an algae and it just happens whenever. There are records of the native people telling the Spanish explorers in the 1600s of a red water that kills the fish and birds. Kinda like forest fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. The last bad occurrence was in 2005 which lasted 18 months. I started coming down here in 2008 and the fishin was fine. Nature has a way of healing natural catastrophes, the man induced are more problematic. Part of the problem is that yrs ago the gov decided to change the flow of water throughout the state to enable cattle ranchers and sugar cane farms to expand their available acerage. Also as the population swelled all of the retirees and golf clubs wanted pretty lawns so they heavily fertalizing. Same problem as the lakes up north have to deal with. It mostly washes into the waters somewhere.
How did ya do huntin?
