beastman....it's a tree by tree decision...but we are not talking about that many trees. I keep most of my trees near the pond trimmed up at least 6-8 feet which allows the tree trunk to get direct sun....so before placing the solar light I watch how much sun a tree gets. I also have a few in the ground with the stake that comes with it, but the ones in the ground can be hit by mowers and weed-eaters. it's all good
