Actually, my former grad student (Dan Isermann, who now works for Ohio DNR) came up with that one. He just said if a jumbo is a big one, then what is the next size class UP from that. Since he was probably writing his dry, boring dissertation at that time, he probably fell back to his old college class in creative writing and figured the alliteration (j in jumbo, j in jalopy) would be good. I didn't think it was all that catchy, but I wasn't sharp enough to come up with a better j-word!

The point is still valid though. It's not that tough to produce 10-12 inch yellow perch around here. However, the 14-inchers are really rare.
