Larger ponds generally get more wind exposure and the thermocline is deeper compared to a smaller pond or one that is wind protected. Ground water influence, stream flow, and spring water can affect water temperature profiles. Each pond is unique in some respects. Once you learn your pond's characteristics or "qirks" it is often fairly consistent year to year, although not always.
