I have been trying to come up with a way to build fairly permanent, dense fish cover that might work per Eric Engbretson's observations (why fish cribs work and why they fail). I found a 2001 pdf document titled GFRAqua, that shows an artificial "habitat" constructed of geotextile material that is cut into small strips and weighted down with sand.
