Numerous fish raisers along the southern shore of western Lake Erie have tried various methods to raise emerald shiners in ponds. They can't get the emeralds to spawn in small ponds. If someone can figure this out they could make a fair amount of money doing it especially when the Lake shiners are difficult to locate or catch for the bait dealers. Many of the bait dealers have to resort to selling fatheads or golden shiners when emeralds are scarse.
