I saw on the news that somebody ended up in the drink in lindenhurst, il yesterday. Fire recue got him out, he was only on 4 ft of water, and survived.

A) be careful, everyone. Lindenhurst is pretty far north of chicago, in an area traditionally known for reliably safe ice.

B) if there was enough ice to get him out to 4' of water, then next weekend should be a go. Yes, i understand i just used tragedy to justify my risk-taking....

I read the other day that a daily average of 23 degrees creates 0.38 inches (averaged from a statistically relevant sample of small waters) of ice on a 2" base layer each day. Does that sound accurate to anyone who keeps that kind of data from their pond?

The fish would stay out of trouble if it could just keep its fool mouth shut.
Turns out there is a lot I should be learning from the fish.
