Hi I just put in a new excavated pond ( about .15 a 12 ft deep. ) It is filled by a seasonal creek and was filled up in about 2 days. I noticed that it seems to be losing about 1/4 inch per day. The soilin one spot was a bit sandy but the rest of the pond had a good clay. The pond is only about 4 weeks old and I was wondering if this loss is normal for a new pond and if I should go out and get some bentonite or should I wait and see where it goes from here? I also saw some folks talk about it sealing up with organic material over time. Is that something I should wait for or is ther esomething more i should do? ANy help or suggestions would be helpful. By the way, if it matters the Pond is in Upstate NY. Thanks!!
