Have been lurking at this site for a while and have read many many posts.

My question is i have land in Chenango County New York. There are no streams or rivers of any kind on or near our property. I am interested in building a small pond 1/4 to 1/2 acre for wildlife and fun with small kids and have been told by some to build what they call a farm pond. Just a large hole to hold water.

One area is part of a field that is open and cleared of trees but is dry as a bone with no water sources except what would fall in the form of rain but is near the house. The other spot is in the woods and would be near a muddy / swampy area (even though we are at the top of a hill this spot is always muddy almost year round so it leads me to believe there is some type of spring in the area)

Thewooded muddy area would take the clearling of trees but the other area would just take digging the pond.

Although i have been lurking here for a while i have really never seen any reference to a farm pond.

Just lookig for insight before i start.
