I agree that such artificial structure might be annoying after some lost lures/fish. I don't see any need of that. In "real life" fish often don't have any complex structure "down there". Some vegetation or a small stone may be everything they got but anyway they live well. A large perch likes to live in depth but not on the flat ground - it prefers rapid ground change from deep to more shallow and it lives there. Theoretically you should have a pond with not flat bottom and everything could be fine. At least it works for normal lakes... P.S. Same with zander (probably with walleye ).
