Is a permit required to build a new pond on a property in Hampshire County?
Generally a permit is not required, but there are some "what if's."
Nothing is exact. Generically, if your dam is going to hold less than 25 vertical feet of water, you don't need any permits in this county.

Our land doesn't perc very well due to all of the clay, which makes for great ponds. It just means that you have very poor septic tank drain fields. Hampshire County strips the clouds heading to Northern VA of much of their moisture. It fills our ponds, so our ponds stay near full-pool most of the year. The county fathers are generally in favor of having more and more ponds.
