Esshup is right - identify what you have first to see if they'll be of any real use to you. I think that, in general, if you put in one fish, you will not have a devastating reduction of aquatic plants. I'm going to be adding 3 to my 1/2 acre pond next week. I had a lot of American pondweed this year, which I don't mind so much, but between that, a lot of chara, and what I believe is also some Sago pondweed, I suspect that 3 will do a nice job of generally keeping it under control. And if it get to be too much control, I'll have fun trying to get rid of one of them. Consider giving 1 or 2 a try, but first verify for sure what plants you have or it will be a wasted effort.
