Mark, its a retrieving dummy. They make a small size which was still kinda big for her at that age. They come in canvass and plastic models. White, black, orange are the common colors. The rubber ones last forever!
I don't think it would matter with some dogs when they are introduced to water. Others, the younger they get introduced the more likely they are to love water. I wouldn't worry about snappers. Other than when they are cornered on land, they are really quite docile. In all likelihood, the snapper will be more afraid of the little pup than the pup would be of it!
