I would take a breath wait a couple of weeks and then bake the man a fine looking pie or jar up some jelly and send it to him from a freind or with a thankyou note about cutting him off in town with your car and sign it Love Marge. Make sure you put those special items in that make it tasty . I am sure your horse has something to add to the mix.
Then where a smile when you see him in the future.
