looking good Brian. Everything has doubled in size since I saw it last. I am betting your lmb and crappie has or will be doing the same with all that forage for them to eat.

Thanks Tracy,

The pictures in order are:

The 350 gallon tank for the midsized fish as they grow bigger

The filter system. From left to right, the swirl filter, then the bio-reactive tank, the little barrel is a table only, it is not part of the system and finally the return tank with final filter

Our first seine pull where we netted about 40 pounds of Tilapia

Next the fish we tossed into the big pond. They did not make the cut to go indoors for the system.

The room and the two big tanks. This was taken early i the setup, the room has lights and a few other goodies now.

The starter fish for one of our brood ponds.

A Tilapia that is only five weeks old. Netted out of the first brood pond the week before our first pull.

Basic thoughts on growout ponds.

We use growout ponds to selectively raise fish like Tilapia. We use several ponds that are 24 feet wide, 100 feet long and three to four feet deep. These ponds get treated before the fish are added. We select the best fish to brood. We test our water and add feed and fertilizer to keep the water in the best shape.

Some of the extra things we do are:

Add limestone rocks to the edges and road base rocks to the middle to reduce turbidity after we walk the seine. This rock also allows the fry to survive.

Add a little well water in the heat of the summer to have better depth.

Finally, we added solar powered aerators to move the water and add some O2.

Then when we seine, we select the best fish for the purpose. Our Tilapia are used for the our overwinter RAS, and dinner. The rest go to the big pond and eat algae. This year we started with five pounds of Tilapia and put more than 100 pounds into our systems with just one brood pond. We still have another seining to go. I expect another 50 pounds of fish to come out of the one brood pond. We should be very well prepared for the winter needs.

You are welcome anytime. it is getting pretty mature now. The solar powered over-winter Tilapia spa is really looking good.

Also, there are some really good solar setups right now. Several options to choose from.

highflyer,

What weight of fish do you keep in your 350 gal overwintering tank? Do they make much growth over winter? With regard to water quality, do you monitor closely or stock such that you trust the RAS to keep it up? Do you do water exchanges periodically? Sorry so many questions ... interesting stuff.

I stock the medium sized fish in that tank. Usually around 5-10 grams. In the past I have seen very good growth. This year I will monitor it more closely. I'll let you know how much they grow. I do monitor my water quality for ph, Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and others. I also monitor the temps. I add salt to the tanks anytime I change any water. The solids tank is flushed as needed. In the past it was once every two weeks. With this load of fish, I expect to clean it weekly. That tank cleans itself by opening on valve. I change out around 150 -200 gallons of water when I clean out the solids tank. I can clean it using a minimum of 70 gallons. Every once in a while, I will dump 300-500 gallons if I see any issues, but staying on top of things makes that not necessary very often.

Hope this helps.
