Yep, open water the whole time, but just...

Each night there would be a skin over most, but not all the open water. It was interesting to say the least.

Let us know what you see for the next few mths (spawn , dead fish if any , sizes , types etc). A good chance to measure the cause and effect.

You bet. I think our pond is going to be okay. Opportunists will be identified!

Yes I am reticent about even going to look at mine this evening which should be thawed completely by now...
We just bought the property, and I was looking so forward to getting the pond cleaned up, then it went to 3F in east Texas!
It froze over hard enough, that I had a tree on my neighbors side, I did not want to drop in the pond and have to drag through and out...
But it needed to come down.
I figured why not, so I lopped it and dragged it across the top.
So at least some good came out of it I suppose.

After a 1000 pounds of tree did not shatter it, I felt safe walking on it.

I am feeling that the only kind of fish I am going to have left is dead ones.

My guess is you will have fish left to move forward. Rare for all or even most to die from a few days of ice.

Well correct you are, I finally made it out there last weekend, and looks like everything survived, frogs, turtles, tadpoles, baby fish, grown fish, like it never happened.
Even the algae looks un-phased.
Amazing, I guess they all huddled at the bottom and made a pact not to eat another because they were all cold!

Since that is likely the worst I will ever see again in my life, I can likely never worry again.

Enjoy the journey - do what you can after thinking things over - don't worry , that never does any good.

So far, only one mort. it was a very large LMB. I would guess the raccoon that ate it didn't need to eat for a while...

It also looks like one beaver drowned under the ice.

How big/old. Could be end of life expectancy.

He'd probably never seen it before.

Eric,

The fish looked healthy with the exception of being half eaten. I would not say it starved to death.

Theo,

Couldn't happen to a nicer tree murderer.

Big LMB at life end don’t necessarily starve to death. I have seen fat healthy 9 yr old LMB die of old age.TPWD did a 16 yr study on Fla LMB and some looked great at LE death.

The Beaver's name was Inigo Montoya. The tree killed his father.

Well, So far I have added GC to the big pond and I have been seeing Improvements. As for the BG and other fish, they are doing very well. I will be pulling a few more LMB this year and I am hopeful the BC pulled off a spawn, all be it late this year. As for the CC, there are too many of them and I will be pulling as many as possible.

The Tilapia are doing well in T5. I have some pics and a video or two which are going through edit. When ready, I'll post the pics and videos of T5. I am very happy how it worked out. I have been making improvements year over year. Now it really seems to be working well.
