Can't tell for sure, but are those a copperhead and rattler? I'm pretty much only good at identifying live vs. dead snakes, and can comfortably say that I'm 100% on the mark that these two are, in fact, stone cold dead. grin

Looks like the water snakes around here. We call them brown diamondback water snakes...no doubt that's NOT the correct name for them.

It doesn’t matter if you are swimming , turning over a boat , clearing brush , seining or checking traps when you get surprised by a crawly reptile – then it’s a -- Copperheaded Rattlemocassin !! See below for PB snake stories.

That one post has lots of funny snake stories.

http://www.pondboss.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=50045&page=1

I got really hot clearing some brush this weekend, so I jumped in the pond for a swim. When I came to the other shore, a pretty big head of a Copperheaded Rattlemocassin popped out of the water about 5 ft away from me. Now I know that it was a Copperheaded Rattlemocassin, because as my friend tells me that that is the name of any snake that scares the heck out of you. Apparently, they come in variety of colors, shapes and sizes.

Normally, my yellow lab swims circles around me, when I go for a swim. This time he didn't stand a chance, as I was hightailing it out of there so fast that I must have hydroplained.

We called them Water Rattlers when I was growing up in North Louisiana. But I don't think that's even close to be a correct name.

Todd after reading some of the snake post I'm sure they are Copperheaded Rattlemocassin! Actually I did kill a big copperhead the same day while mowing.

Great thread, Eric! Thanks for posting that. I am now convinced I've seen many copperheaded rattlemocassins in my time!
