The new site is simple to use. I know most of us don't like change, but we had not upgraded the software in a number of years and our old version was no longer supported by the company that developed the software we use.

The old software had developed a few glitches, so it was necessary to make a change.

To post a new topic, just click on the "New Topic" link on the left top of the forums. When you click on a post, you can either use the "quick reply" box or click on "New Reply" for the full reply box options, such as smiley faces, etc.

Take a little time and try to figure things out before you email with "how do I" questions. I'm sure we'll be getting lots of email during the next few weeks.

I will also check the post regularly over the next few weeks and answer questions, so if you have them, post here.

There are a number of new features I think you will enjoy, so in this case, hopefully you will decide that change is good.

Thanks, J.P. I think we will be able to handle it. Even Davidson - he finally got used to a computer that doesn't run on propane, he can manage this.

About the Shout Box ... it is meant as a quick way to say hello. I wouldn't suggest posting pond questions there, as they will move off the screen quickly and probably never be addressed. Just use it for a hello or maybe quick personal announcements or accomplishments. It's also a good place for the comments about getting a new issue of the mag. I've noticed folks like to announce that around these parts.

JP no questions or answers to questions should go in the Shout Box as then the thread they are about will not make sense. \:o

Star ratings were not really important. Look at some of the people who are considered a "star" and yet get arrested or are on drugs. Ratings are way-over done and too much emphasis on them. One should be able to evaluate the value of the advice here based on its content. When someone gets or says something out-of-line here, it doesn't take long for them to be corrected. Lots of informed critics in these parts.

The new format seems pretty good to me. Now if wee kan just git spell check I wiill reallly be haappy.

A spell check is built in to the Google task bar (for box fields). Just download the task bar and you can spell check any time you are filling in forms or fields.

Bill,

I'm not sure what I've got set where, but my spelling checker works just like it does in MS Word. I'm using Windows XP Pro, and I have the full MS Office suite installed. Misspelled words are underlined in red. Maybe somebody can shed some light on how to get this set.

Ken

EDIT: Oops. I just saw the post above. I now realize that is why my spell checker works.

I just noticed that you can hold your curser over the face icon next to someones username and it show if that person is online or not.

Tom, the type of face displayed indicates whether or not that person is online.

= online

= offline

Man,
I haven't had much time to look this new stuff over. J P really outdid himself. This software has much more to offer. I have about 30 minutes before the princess plans to whisk us off to a neighbors for afternoon conversation and such, so I think I'll study this stuff. Besides what's listed above, what else have you guys learned with this updated program?

I've learned that the search function is about 5,000 times better than it was on the old forum.

It thinks you have a Home Page listed if you entered "None" in your profile.
