I have recently planted hundreds of bald cypress below the future water line of my new ponds. The ponds are waiting for rain to be filled. I planted them from 5 feet below the future water line to a couple feet above the future water line. I know some of the deeper ones will fail, but the trees were cheap and I enjoy experimenting by pushing the limits.

Has anyone else tried this with success. Do these trees make good fish habitat??

I just planted 20 around the upper end of my pond as well. Most of mine were from the water line down to at most two feet.

There was an older topic on this. I have planted mine just outside of the mud line on the edge of my pond. the growth rate has been very very good.
ML noted in the old post that he had better growth from the one he planted further from the water in better drained soil. I plan to add several to my newest pond soon & weeping willows they grow like weeds.

I planted a couple in a shallow water area at the back of Zephyr pond. They are doing great. I have some 25 feet tall ones below the dam and they are really pretty, especially in fall when they turn red. I am gonna plant some more. I'm sure the ones in the pond are bound to attract fish.

In Dog Beers, I've had one.
