The last two weeks have been focused on two things...writing and editing Jan/Feb Pond Boss and pushing hard to finish our home. This next issue of PB is now in the hands of Jim Stroud, our layout guru. Next issue has a lots of good meat. Eric West has a story about blocking nets. Theo Gallus put together some good words about "Fish in a Barrel." There is a long feature that is a detailed spin on the food chain for largemouth bass. Let's see...Dr. Dave Willis writes about feeding bass to bass. Hmmm...what could that be about? Sherman Wyman takes us through remodeling his weekend cabin. He has good advice. That Otto..I don't know about him. You never know what he'll come up with next. He just took a crash course in waterfowl management and built several duck pond/paddies for a client. His story is backed up with some research. Richard Peterson has a good story on how to properly mount wood duck boxes, Mike Mitchell starts a year long series on water management, Pond Boss subscriber Shawn Svob takes on a ride through his decision making process and then the renovation of his pond/lake. Ralph Manns does a follow up on silt removal. There's lots, lots more.
About the house...we are making good progress. Our goal was to move in by Christmas, but it ain't gonna happen. No worries, though. It takes a lot of self-induced pressure off the princess Debbie. In the meantime, several of us are cutting big native cedar trees, bringing them to the house, and cutting some gorgeous boards with a sawmill. This latest round of boards are being cut and planed for the ceiling in the great room. It's rewarding to go to the woods, cut some invasive trees, help the landowner, and bring them back to make materials for our house. It's fun, too.
