On Monday, Chad and I left Whitesboro at 4 a.m., headed near Beaumont, Texas to consult with Baxter Dunagan, and his bride Susan. They have a pond with feed trained bass, up to five pounds each. These bass are three years old. They range in size from two and a half to five pounds. The pond has no young of the year bass. But, there are five different size classes of bluegill. The bass look great. The recommendation is to stock 9-12" bass, a missing size class. Also, stock threadfin shad.
Next, we traveled to Quantum Lakes, north of Houston, at the behest of the owner and his manager. Quantum Lakes is a fishing club with 150 acres of water, and they have several issues to discuss, one of which is the fishery. It seems fishing success has declined over the last two or three years. One mission was to meet up with Alan Warren, who has a long time outdoor tv show, mostly hunting and fishing. Little did we know we would also get to meet Skeet Reese, professional bass fisherman from northern California. He was flown in to fish with Alan and shoot a promotional video for Champion Boats. So, we got to discuss fish management, the business of Quantum Lake's club business, the owner's faith, shoot some video footage and meet a famous bass fisherman. Skeet makes the BassMaster's Classic almost every year. He is one of the top five money winners and well paid bass fishermen in the U.S. An interesting guy. Alan is a class guy who knows television and is well established in his market.
Yesterday, we spent most of the day on the sawmill, cutting boards for the house. Tomorrow, to the woods to cut more cedar trees for the mill, and then spend time writing reports and proposals for landowners.
Fun.
Fish on.
