Hmmm...9-11 and I am flying into LaGuardia later this morning. Headed to a Wildlife Preserve on Long Island. It's a mystery...I have been referred by a well known wildlife biologist. Have spoken with the preserve manager three times on the phone. Ordinarily, I do quite a bit of homework, looking at the property on TerraServer or googleearth.com, etc. And, I try to get as much history as I can from the landowner. Not this time. Coming in blind, meeting with the manager to come up with a game plan to improve several small ponds, two or three which are fresh water and other which are influenced by brackish water. Back home Wednesday. Should be another cool adventure.

Well, had to sign a confidentiality agreement, so can only give out a small bit of information about this fun job. This preserve has several small ponds, and the preserve manager wants to establish a fishery in three our four of the ponds. The main thrust of this old farm is deer. But, the ponds play an esthetic role as well as having some entertainment value. We decided to electrofish each one to check the fish populations, do some in-depth water quality analysis to see what the water is like, then make recommendations to improve each pond and its fish inhabitants.
