From forum member 'Snipe': In Kansas Hatcheries for FHM production-easily duplicated in a simpler manner. We drive fence post staples, 2 at each end of a 4'X8' sheet of plywood and run braided cable through the staples and float 20-30 sheets on the surface with cables staked on either side of rearing ponds.
I used wood pallets on my pond and used eyelet screws to run 1/4" rope through. If you think they will sink (I've never had one sink anywhere I've done this) run a pool noodle through each side.

GRASS CARP OR WHITE AMUR

Eats live plant matter and pellets.

Needs very specific conditions for reproduction that generally aren’t met in a pond environment. Typically won’t reproduce.

Can reach over 50 pounds.

Highly palatable but extemely bony. It's important that the red meat be carefully trimmed away.

GOLDEN SHINER

Eats zooplankton and pellets.

Low to medium fecundity.

Can reach over one pound.

Poor palatability, but can make an excellent forage fish.

WALLEYE

Vastly prefers fish, especially soft rayed fish like gizzard and threadfin shad. Difficult to locate pellet trained fish.

Poor fecundity in ponds.

Poor growth in ponds makes fish over six pounds uncommon, but in large ponds with adequate forage can exceed ten pounds.

Excellent palatability

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=3516 Walleye FishBase

YELLOW PERCH

Eats zooplankton, live fish, readily adapts to pelleted feed.

Moderate fecundity.

Can grow to two pounds and 15" in ponds; 10"-12" are the most common size in ponds.
Life span of yellow perch will depend on average water temperature, growth rate, and type of foods eaten. YP will live longer in cooler waters with slower growth. We are finding that fast growth and a high carbohydrate diet seems to shorten their life span. When regularly fed a high protein pellet diet in the midwest, they usually live 6 years to often 8 years old (total age). Stocker YP (2"-8") can be 1 - 2 yrs old when you buy them. When living on a natural diet they can sometimes live 10-13 yrs.

Excellent palatability.

TROUT, RAINBOW AND BROWN

Eat zooplankton, insect life, mollusks, other fish, pellets.

Generally don’t reproduce in ponds.

Can be grown to over ten pounds in ponds when fed pelleted feed.

Good to excellent palatability.
