btw, when a fish swallows the hook do you just cut the line or try to get it out? I cut the line at the mouth twice but didn't know if that was the best thing to do.

IF you are trying to save the fish, cut the line. With snelled hooks on a snap swivel, I just take it off the snap swivel unless the protruding snelled line is long enough to retie another hook onto.
