I need a little assistance. I found some type of worm in the flesh in two of my bluegills. I would welcome any info on what this could be.

I will try to down load a pic. In a few, I am not great with computers.....

The black oval/round looking critters are flukes. These are harmless to humans if cooked. These are present in waterfowls intestine and when they pay a visit to your pond they leave some these guys behind. The the crustaceans snails etc.. pick them up then in turn get eaten buy the gills and they work there way into the meat. Now after that I dont know what happens to them. Sorry i know the story was gettin good.

The yellow critters i have seen in my crappie and I am pretty sure you can consume those too if cooked. Basically most parasites found on or in fish can be cooked to safe eating. it is just a matter of what you like looking at while eating

I just told my wife the fillets came PRE-seasoned:)

I actually see two types of parasites. The yellow worm like critter are yellow grubs. Nothing to worry about. Just grubs, spread by snails, that are spread by birds. Perfectly harmless when cooked.

I also see what my aunts and uncles called "bluegill pepper." Again, a common parasite that most people ignore. Those are the little black spots you see in the flesh and skin. I'm not sure, but I think the real name is black spot.

Neither are anything to worry about.

Stocking RES, who will love eating the snails, will reduce the incidence of these parasites.
