It was a strange day of fishing today at Zephyr Pond. First I caught 4 crappie and I didn't know there were any crappie in the pond. But, then I caught a bass that had a mouth like a LMB but it didn't have the markings of a LMB. It looked more like a white bass or sand bass. Is it possible to have a white bass exist in a farm pond and would they have a mouth like an LMB?

Don't know about ponds but I used to fish a very muddy lake. It was so muddy that we couldn't see the fish in the livewell. The fish we caught were mostly, not white, but kinda tan. They certainly had no green on them.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

LMB can show very little to no pattern/color when certain situations are present like muddy water ( they carry their camo with them and use it well). Any more water yet?

heybud,

How large were the crappie?

Also, i have seen light colored bass in muddy water as DD and ewest suggest above.

heybud's pond was fairly clear last time I saw it. How large was the bass? I caught a small bass from my pond yesterday that was almost solid white. The marking were very faint. Could it be a HSB?

The crappie were about a pound each. They looked identical. The bass was about 11 inches long and weighed less than a pound. The pond is still shrinking, but at a much lower rate. I keep thinking the talpia will all be dead when I drive up, but they are still suriviing. Drilled a new water well this past week but only got about 2 gpm, so no help there.

heybud,

Catching a couple of 1 lb crappie seems better (to me) than catching stunted little guys...perhpas their sporatic spawning + the presence of other preditors have kept the crappie population in check thus far. Remind me again - what is the size of your pond?

Can you email me a photo? I should be able to ID quite easily with a decent picture.

Zephyr Pond under normal condition is 2+ acres. Right now it is probably around 3/4 of an acre. The water doesn't have a muddy color but has a deep green color. I am running aeration constantly.

Bruce- You will have to pardon my cryptic writing. I know my bass was a LMB. I was thinking that maybe heybud's was a LMB with the markings being very faint or perhaps it was a HSB. My writing is hard to understand sometimes! \:\)
