Dave :

You are correct "levity" is an absolute defense to the crime of thread hijacking or for that matter thread abuse. However I am not always capable of claiming that protection even when I try. \:\)

Dwight -- I have every one of those books in a box downstairs. How sad. I better get them out, and hope that it's been long enough that they will read like new again!! Still in Rapid City -- it's -20 F right now!!

Theo -- those last several were great, as well.

Dave D -- I suspect that I read most of the L'Amour books, but didn't save them. Actually, went to college with one of his shirt-tail relatives. He went by D'Amour and claimed that actually was the family name. Don't know.

I may have been incorrect.

You guys are far more geekier than I.

Dwight and everyone else, if you ever get a chance to get to Sioux Falls, I'd love to have you out! The most fun is when we have a group out. These types of groups are so appreciative of the opportunity and so much fun to work with.

Doc Dave, I think I read them all once upon a time also.

I tried Heinlein but was really too young to understand what he was saying.

Right now, I'm into the classics. Or, at least some of them. I have found that some of them are only classics due to widespread illiteracy at the time they were written. Or, maybe it is my current illiteracy.

There is another singularity that has been discussed a lot on the web. That is the growth of mans knowledge has been doubling at a faster and faster rate. At a point in the future when machines begin to think, the rate will quickly increase to infinity and that is called the singularity.

http://singularity.com/

http://www.kurzweilai.net/index.html?flash=2

Light never escapes from a gravitational singularity. There has been a lot of controversy as to weather they even exist. As time slows to infinity at the Schwartzchild’s radius so how could they collapse to a infinite point? The particles would forever be trying to reach the center.

Lets talk some physics! My favorite subject! \:\)

Theo – How is your tan coming along?

Ewest – You should write an article about this lesson in physics for the ‘Quantum Physics Monthly’. I am sure it would earn you a great deal of respect from that publication’s subscriber base!

Dave Willis – Sifi be bery bery good to me! We have a heat wave going here, up to 5 plus at 1325 hours.

Sunil – I looked up “geekier” and find that it is a not even accepted as slang. That got me thinking, which is always worrisome! Through limited research It appears the correct terminology would be “You guys are far more geeky than I”.

It then follows that I wanted to know the meaning of the word “geek”, to a larger degree.

My two favorites are:
“A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.”

“A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.”

Norm Kopecky – Thank you for the invite. Maybe this summer, I’ll give you a shout and see if we can get together and check out your pond.

I am wondering though, if you may withdraw the invite based on the direction that this thread has been heading!

PondsForFun – Interesting links! I find my knowledge of physics is more empirical in nature; perhaps some would call it manifest physics.

Dwight:

Tan got pretty dark today, although it has an unusual mottled pattern. Probably from the goosebumps.

I like the term fish nuts better as it leaves people wondering what it means whereas geeks is quite clear. I think? ;\) I like the idea above about an article in Quantum Physics Monthly but I am afraid they would call me a rank amateur fish nut.

How about "Ichthyusiast?"

Dwight, you'd have to be way more brutal to scare some of these characters.

You're not gonna outgeek Theo. Notice that he constructs his very own 5 syllable words.

I am throwing a clinker into the thread……………….

It was bothering me that my X structures (page 1 of the thread) were leaning to an alarming degree. So I went down there to see what the problem was.

The top nuts have backed off enough so the lock washer is no longer compressed. That allows the whole works to flex in the wind. I suppose the wood compressed and since there is a lot of wood it was easy for things to loosen up. The X configuration is intact from top to bottom as I imagine there is plenty of friction between each timber to keep them from turning.

My plan is to tighten them up again. Then, I m going to run four 4” deck screws in at each timber junction point at a 30 degree or so down angle to lock them all individually to each other. That will give my cordless DeWalt an aerobic workout, though not an epiphany, as it is an inanimate object! http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=002430

After they settle in again for a week, I will return again to tighten the top nut down for a final time.

At that point I am willing to bet they will drop to the bottom in the desired configuration as per the original design parameters. That, baring a tornadic event on the day they sink!

Talk about your “on the fly” engineering.

Sorry for the thread reversion to the original subject!

Dwight

Would "Ichthyusiast" be a syllabic pentameter or just a misnomer?

Sounds more like some kind of dangling partacycle to me.

“Dangling partacycle”, sounds like that fish I caught after its trip through the prop of that 225 horse outboard!

Heck if I know. I think "Ichthyusiast" is actually a 4 1/2 syllable word a la "Ick - thyewwwwww - zee - est". Half syllable words are common in this part of Ahia. For example, my hometown of Newark is pronounced not "New - erk: (2 syllables), not "Nerk" (1 syllable), but rather "Nuherrk" (1 1/2 syllables).

But go ahead and ask DD - he constructs his very own 5 letter words.

Be very careful, Eric. You are being watched. Is your neck color the result of red dye? Any more whipping out of big words could cause expulsion and banishment to colder climes.
