It's been pretty wet here recently, no heavy showers, but day after day of drizzle. My wife noticed this pair of "volunteer" drains at a pond owned by a neighbor of ours down the road a half mile. After calling and letting him know, we took pictures.

This pond has been in existence for longer than we've been in the neighborhood (over 20 years) with no problems that I know of. So what caused the leak? See that utility pole uphill from the water streams? They buried telephone and/or cable TV lines from the pole to their house last Summer burying the lines in a trench dug along the entire length of the dam! Water is apparently leaking into the trench, probably along the entire face of the dam, then running downhill and forcing it's way out at the drainage ditch near the road. Hopefully the owner can get the leak slowed down with loose straw or something until it can be fixed.

Like the title says, "Don't let this happen to you!"

TERRIBLE! The integrity of the dam is gone.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I pity the man that has a fool for a neighbor.

To Dam or not to dam

That isn't even a question

He is thankfully downhill from me.

I am beginning to wonder if the pole or the dam will go first, and if I'll be able to tell afterwards.
