Hi,
I am new to the site. As a background, my old house had a small ornamental pond in the backyard. I used a lot of information from here to help out. There are lots of knowledgeable people! I moved into a new property last summer that has a 1/2 acre pond/lake in the back. I am a little out of my element with it. Thought it was time to join.

Thanks FireisHot! I just posted a thread in the "Questions" forum about my overflow drain. I'll see what others think.

Welcome Newb!! As Al stated, got some good folks in your neck of the woods ready to help you out. We were all newbs at one time or another, and still often feel like it! Can you share some about your pond and your goals?

First order of recommendation, don’t put fish in the 1/2 acre pond that you would put in an ornamental pond. No koi or goldfish.
I put in hybrids, and while it is likely they won’t reproduce, they are an endless source of problems. Mostly from water turbidity, but secondarily from becoming bosses of feeding time. Also they are impossible to catch as they are smart as hell. You can only catch one in the school one way once, and never catch the rest the same way. Net, bait, crossbow… they see that thing and vaporize. The only recourse now is electroshock therapy, or something more drastic.

Newb, welcome to the show.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
