First let me say that I love this site ! My question is where can I get some blue gills . I live in NJ and there is only one hatchery that sells warm water fish and they are currently out of them right now. Thanks for any help .

Did you look into Mid-Atlantic Stocking? I haven’t used them, but they have delivery routes in NJ.

You could try Solitude. I know they have a location in Virginia, but they do travel a lot.

You can also call Zetts in Drifting PA (near State College) if you're willing to drive there.

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Welcome to Pond Boss!

If your best local supplier does not have BG now, then they may have some available for stocking in the fall.

If you don't find an alternative supplier, then you may want to contact your local supplier and enquire about placing a pre-order for this fall. I believe the suppliers on Pond Boss love pre-orders, because they can then plan their delivery schedules. If it turns out that they are also delivering BG to another pond in your vicinity, then you might get a small break on your delivery fee.

Another option is bucket stocking (where you just catch the fish yourself). Does your pond currently have any large predators? If not, then you catching as few as ten BG this spring, might be enough to get some significant spawning accomplished this summer.

Make sure you only stock BG large enough that you can be 100% sure of your identification. Also make sure you comply with the regulations in your state.

Even if you stock commercial BG later, the genetic diversity of your bucket stocking would probably still be a positive for your pond's eventual total BG population.

Good luck on your stocking efforts!

Thank you FishingRod ! I may just resort to catching some myself and just continue to stock Fatheads and Shiners now. The pond at one time had a good balance of prey and predator but last summer with the draught it had a major fish kill . Very few fish survived . Thanks again !
