I am new to bass fishing and enjoying it alot so far. I was no good at it so i built a 1.5 acre LMB pond and got sucked into how fun it is learning about these fish. So made simple 1.5 acre pond spawning beds in corners a few shelves pier and added water. Stocked it Spring 2024 while filling pond up. Introduced 2 strains of LMB F1s and Lonestar Legacies. With the intent of growing trophies. Got carried away and chipped all of them to compare how they grow and act. Then started logging my data. When fish hit 1 year and a week I caught a few to see where I was at and pulled out a 2Lbs 13 OZ chunk of a fish with relative weight of 138% and yes im hooked now. So thanks for having me and I look forward to learning from yalls knowledge that is on this forum.

Welcome! Great growth. Did you stock 6"-8" fingerlings in the Spring of 2024? Please share your stocking plan to include the sequence in time. Did you stock minnows?

Yes sir, I stocked it all in spring of 24. I put 60 Lbs of GS and FHM combined. I believe a 40/20 split. 2400 CNBG and 400 RSF per acre. I did it in 2 sets due to i'm very impatient. So when pond was 1/3 full I stocked 1/3 of my forage. Then the rest right before full. I used ag lime when empty tested water when full and started fertilizer very soon. So 1st set forage early Feb. and last set was Mid march. Then LMB March 22nd. I fed the Forage fish from day one just moved feeder up bank as water filled. the F1s were 2-3s and the Lonestar legacies were 3 to 4s so i was able somehow to tag those so I would be able to tell apart. Wasn't fun and couldn't find any reading material if it was even possible to tag that small. But i did only had one floater. And yes since I'm very impatient i filled with a well that I aerated. Feed used was of course Optimal

Very GOOD growth there! Will be a lot of fun to watch your LMB grow.
Date of LMB stocking noted. Did you yourself do the PIT tagging? Pretty dang cool if you did.

Yes sir, did it myself I bought the smallest tags and the needle inserting gun thingy. Studied LMB anatomy diagram found a void and went for it. used a void area since they didn't have enough meat up high to insert when they were 3s. I got extra fingerling thinking my survival rate would be poor but to my surprise went very well so I have been culling some smaller males right now to get to my LMB stocking number i want. The F1s I have tagged as I went only have like 4 more to go and just tagged one yesterday and tagging them in meat up high. Believe the pit tagging system is actually made for medical monkeys.

PSR, welcome to the addiction. Where are you on the Gulf Coast?
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Draw line from houston straight south until you hit the gulf. Off of the San Bernard river.

In the chainsaw aficionado world we have CAD, meaning chainsaw addiction/acquisition/affliction disease. It seems as though now someone else has BAD, bass addiction disease. Welcome to the club PSR.

Yes, just as long as the wife don't find out the extent of it. I should be alright. A better strategy is to ALSO get her addicted to bass fishing. Since getting married, my wife now likes to catch fish, go RV camping, and can ring the 4" steel plate six out of six shots with her own pistol. OTH, I learned to change a diaper in under 60 seconds and have watched the Pride and Prejudice production with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth several times. Both of us are a better version! I hope the whole family has great fun with your new pond.

Yes, she enjoys it. But enjoys the bay fishing more can't get her to stop with reds and flounder. We both are having a blast watching the kiddos enjoy it. Yes, diaper changing machine over here also.
