Built new pond in Wood County TX last October. New pond water has never cleared up at any point since having it dug. It finally filled 2-3 weeks ago and water clarity remains the same. Its approximately lil less than 1/2 acre and estimated around 1 million gallons. I have done the following listed below. 1. I filled 2 glass jars. 1 remained outside in sun and 1 was placed in the dark. After 1 week both jars appear the same with no clay settling to the bottom. 2. Filled 4 clear 1 gallon jars. #1 got 2 teaspoons of gypsum. Clay settled to bottom and water is clean. #2 got 1 teaspoon of gypsum. Clay settled to bottom and water cleared but not quite as much as #1. #3 received 4 tablespoons of water from #2. Water did not clear and no sign of clay settling. #4 received 6 tablespoons of water from #2. Water did not clear and no sign of clay settling. Should I do more test? Looking for recommendation of what to do from here.

Have to control how suspended solids are entering the pond first.

I haven’t tested the water. Just treated 1 gallon jars with gypsum which helped.

Like others have said, you need plants around the pond to minimize the bare dirt to stop the influx of dirty water when it rains. Once you have that, try using alum (aluminum sulfate) in place of gypsum to clear the water sample in the jar.
