Hello, I’m Justin Malone a bass junkie from Florida. I have a 10 acre retention pond in my subdivision that does have nice bass. It is a giant sand bowl with a hard bottom that was dug out over 20 years ago to build up the neighborhood. I would love to improve it, and I have permission from the HOA to add artificial structures. I’m hoping to learn a good bit, as I’m just used to dragging baits for the past 30 years. I do have a sonar map of the bottom if anyone would like to see it.

Tight Lines,
Malone

Welcome to the forum. Look in the Archives. There are a few threads about cover and structure in a pond. That is a good starting point for you . You have to have cover in the pond for both the bass and the bluegill. To grow larger bass, they need to eat bluegill that are 1/4-1/3 their body length. Typically they need to eat 10# of correct sized bluegill to add 1# of body weight (per fish). Then you have the amount of fish they need to eat every year just to survive.

When you say you want to improve it, what specifically do you want to improve?

Welcome!!

I'd love to see the sonar map of the pond bottom.

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."
