I did not understand the type of plastic barrier fence/net used by the gentleman that made the post, perhaps 10-14 years back.

He said at the time it cost him $50. for enough barrier to make several 8' diameter circles. He fed, spawn & raised 3-5" tilapia in them over the summer. The fry were able to swim out of the barrier into the pond but the barrier protected the breeding tilapia from the ponds predators. When winter arrived he put the tilapia in a container in his barn & turned them loose in the pond next spring as they were then 1-2 lbs. No mention of exactly where he got the barrier nor who made it & what it was originally intended for. I like his idea!

Does anyone know what he was using? A good substitute for this idea? cheap, re-usable, small holes for fry to escape but keep the breeders in & predators out? What I have found is cheap with big holes or small holes & very expensive. Some deer fence but holes are 1".

Theo Thanks

I looked at snow fence, Price is right, great strength & durability but the holes are large at 1 3/4" sq.
Best I have found so far:

Holes appear to be about 1/2" + or -. I am still looking.

3/4" heavy plastic net

Stuff like this is what I use for fish cages. I have a roll that is 4r" tall by almost 48" diameter....... The squares are 3/4" square. I have another roll that is 1/2" mesh and one that is 3/16" mesh. I have had made fish cages that are still in use going on 15 years ago. I just have to replace the black zip ties every few years. Originally I purchased from Stoney Creek in Michigan. Once that was used up I found a supplier and bought 3 bulk rolls. I forget where I got them now.
