Went to my place a couple of days ago and did some bluegill fishing. I tossed out some feed and then started getting my gear rigged up.
Didn’t go well. Moby Dick, my 25 yoa catfish that I call Nautilus, and a couple of big bass showed up. Heck, all I wanted to do was catch some BG and/or green sunfish. I caught a couple of dinks and then nothing stayed in the area due to the big bullies showing up. That cat is at least 4 ft long.
So, I jumped on the 4wheeler and went a mile to feed my green sunfish. Didn’t fish for them. It was getting hot.
Went back to the AC and cooled off. Then headed North into Oklahoma to see a prairie dog town that I like to watch. They were smart enough to stay underground in the heat.
Back to Fort Worth. Temps are pushing 100 so not much sense in dragging my old butt back there in the heat. I’ll go a couple of times per week to toss feed. Due to drought, the pellets can’t reach the water.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Lol, sounds somewhat familiar I haven’t caught a catfish in my pond for a month. Told the girlfriend last night that I was going to sit on the dock and fish until I caught a catfish. Pole in hand loaded with a bobber and hotdog on the hook, I was ready to go. 3 LMB, 2 CNBG, 2 HSB and 1 SMB later, it was dark, bugs were eating me up and no catfish. Tucked my tail and moped back to the house

I am lucky, just grab a pole & walk out the backdoor. I have been trying to remove excess LMB from the pond. Nothing! since mid August. I keep trying a different bait & style of presentation with no luck. I did watch a LMB at high speed rip through a small school of feeding BG & take out a small one. The one LMB & only that I have seen. I want to remove the brown bullheads with no luck there either.
Perhaps as the pond cools my luck will change?

If I clicked all of the correct boxes on my internet order, it might even include some rain in the package that I am sending you!

Perhaps as the pond cools my luck will change? When we get our slow fishing here (usually in August), I seem to have a little luck right at dawn and dusk. Have you hit those times? I have never fished in Florida. Do you sometimes get good action right before thunderstorms? You might try that if you can be safe to get back into the house before any lightning gets close to your pond.

I fish early in the morning & later evening. It is the cooler time of day for me & best luck with the fish. Sometimes the middle of the day but it has not been very productive except for sweat. Never tried before a thunderstorm.
We just had a stretch of about 5 weeks of daily heavy overcast & rain. I am guessing; but I am sure we have had at least12" of rain, pond for a time was up a foot, ground was like walking on a wet sponge, grass suffering because it is so wet, we now have a very nice crop of mosquitos! No more rain here for a bit, please.
Going to try a new small minnow like plastic & a different hook & rig. I should buy stock in all the plastic bait companies.

JE I will trade you some of our cooler weather we're getting next week for some of that rain Pond is severely low right now and grass crunches like potato chips when I walk on it. It's 102 today but only supposed to be 76 for a high on Sunday. Fish have still been biting here though. Grandkids and I have been catching several HBG, nephew caught his first LMB last week. Haven't been trying for CC, too hot. Bet they will bite for you when it cools down.
2 Acre, Completed July 2022, CC,BG, Sept. 2022, LMB June 2023, 120 BG, 30 RES, 50 HBG all 4-6", 8 TGC 8-10", 1000 MF, Aug 2024, GSF, YBH washed in 2022.

I agree on the dry and crunchy. Looks like there is some moisture headed our way, grass and pond could definitely use it.
