Hi, Need some 101 lessons on fountain physics. I got my fountain a long time ago. It includes the floating base about 2 feet in diameter, the led lights around, and the the pump I bought separately. My Jebao 5000 gph crapped out. I'm looking at new pumps and can't decide wich to get. I would like to get a more powerful pump, possibly 9000gph, but not sure if it will work well with the current setup. The pipe in a fountain base is just 3/4 inch at the narrowest point. After that, I installed the nozzle that has a 1-inch inlet.
Are there any drawbacks to getting the powerful pump and connecting it to a base that has a 3/4 outlet/inlet?
The fountain is for aesthetic purposes, aerating with air compressors.
Thanks

Water is absolutely incompressible at those rates.

A few restrictions, elbows, etc. in a system are usually fine, but do cause some frictional pressure losses between your pump and the outlet.

However, if your pump outlet nozzle is designed for 5000 gph, there is a chance the 9000 gph pump is NOT going to have a more fabulous flow through that outlet. Instead, you may just burn up your pump in a short time frame as it is always pushing against a very high back pressure.

All of the above is certainly speculation, but your original setup probably had at least some basic system engineering by the manufacturer. Almost doubling the flow rate without any other design changes MAY bite you in the rear end.

Just make sure the wire is sized correctly for the increased gph. If not you will fry that new pump quickly.
