Hoping one of you guys can help me put my fingers on this. I know I read this, feel like it was most likely here on the forum and now can't seem to find it. From memory there was a post in the middle of a thread where somebody responded with the growth rates as a comparision between these three guys. I think the Northerns grew faster than their counterparts for the first year, at year two things were pretty close to the same on weight between the three, and then in year three the F1 and Florida started to pull away from the Northern strain and never looked back.

Anybody remember this thread?

No google search seems to find the chart. I just saw this saying that floridas typically get bigger because they tend to live longer

"They'll have big bass quicker than the folks who stocked pure Floridas, because F1 and northern largemouth both grow faster until the fish gets to around a pound in size; at that point the Floridas begin outpacing both of the other varieties, and because Floridas also live longer on average than either a northern or F1, they ultimately get bigger."

What I remember on the post was that Northerns were ahead on year 1, all fish were basically equal on year 2, and then in year 3 the F1 and FL strains pulled ahead leaving the Northerns in the dust so to speak. Just can't seem to put my fingers back on that thread. The big differences were on year 3+.

Ok - the short version.

Location !!!!
Food availability.
Lots of studies on this.

There are + and - to each depending on goals.
Genetics (family history not Fla , F-1, Fx or northern) also plays a part .

FYI Fla and to some lesser extent F-1 or x males are small (much smaller than females and northern males) all things being equal (see above factors). So half your Flas and Fxs may be small.

In some studies growth in Northerns in year 1 (really yr 0) was faster but that may be because of location. Contrary to many beliefs initial growth in yr 1 northern climates is faster in many species (shorter growing season) and may show up in initial growth rates. Flas live longer in southern climates but less (maybe only 1 year) in northern climates due to cold intolerance.
