Hi all, I went down to my usually 1 acre very clear pond yesterday and see that it has turned green and the visibility is reduced to about 6 inches. I’m assuming it is an algae bloom. I have always had some filamentous algae in the pond, but never this green color in three years since construction. The pond at this point is about 8 feet Deep.
Will this resolve or do I need to treat the pond to get rid of the green color? I see a product on Amazon called Algaefix, Can I buy 5 gallons of this and apply to the pond to clear the algae?
Thanks in advance for your great help, Tony

I don't have a lot of experience in the aspect of algae blooms, but I believe that an algae bloom has the most negative potential during the night when the bloom will consume oxygen, and thus increase potential for a fish kill.
If you are not aerating, maybe there's a way to agitate the water at night. Even if you can get some horizontal surface current going with a trolling motor, it could help.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Look into Green Clean Plus or Cutrine Plus.liquid. Follow the directions on the label, I'd only treat half the pond at once.
Do you have aeration? If not, look into getting a system.

An algal bloom is the start of the food chain! Many people on Pond Boss deliberately fertilize their ponds to create a bloom.
The fertility of your pond has almost certainly been slowly increasing for the past three years.
However, with the good comes the possibility of the very bad. As the experts above point out, a fish kill is now possible.
Do you live at your pond? I don't know how much time you have from the point you start to observe fish piping for oxygenated water at the surface to the point that you start to suffer a fish kill. (Maybe the experts can estimate that?)
Perhaps make a plan now, so you can execute the plan at a moments notice if needed?

I lost all my fish in a pond I use to own due to turnover - I have 4 aerators going in the pond I have now -
