Hey all, we've had a real hot spell here in ontario and looks like we will have another 4 days of 90 degree wx. We've also had lots of rain which I think is helping out my lake quite a bit by keeping it cooler but I went for a swim today and noticed that the thermocline was more or less gone, looks like I had a turnover? Earlier on it was at about 2 feet below the surface and then about a foot and now it's a pretty steady 78 to 80 degrees from surface to about 6 feet and then it starts to get a bit cooler in areas probably from spring action.
The lake is about 14 feet in areas and a lot of it is about 7 feet. I put 3 gopros in the water today at 3 feet, 6 feet and about 10 feet of depth, the sunfish were everywhere from bottom to top, zillions of them, the trout were cruising at about 6 feet. The trout are still jumping for bugs all day long and right into the evening, I caught one a few days ago - it fought for a few seconds and then just gave up and got off at the same time - I found it dead the next day so no more fishing until the temps drop a bit.
Lots of zooplankton waves in the water, no real crazy algae blooms but I expect over the next week I may see some. Visibility now is easily 6 feet. I had a large amount of submergent weeds grow a few weeks ago and then seem to be dying now and settling to the bottom like they do every year, that'll be hard on the DO this winter but I'm curious to see how it turns out and if the trout make it, I know that 80 degrees is getting stressful on the rainbows and brookies - hopefully they have found a nice cool spring to chill by.
I did notice that the PS are still spawning, they've been spawning for a month and a half it seems....little fellas eveywhere!
